Three Latin American countries participate in APEC Summit


Only three Latin American countries -Peru, Mexico and Chile- will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum scheduled for November 13-14 in Yokohama, Japan.

Presidents of these countries have already begun their journey to Japan, and Chilean President Sebastian Piñera is the first leader to arrive at 09:00 local time (0000 GMT) on board the presidential plane, accompanied by the first lady and members of the parliament.

According to the press, Piñera will urge the conclusion of the Doha Round of global trade liberalization talks.

Likewise, Mexican President Rafael Calderon will travel to Yokohama on Friday after wrapping up his participation in the G-20 summit, which was held in Seoul.

Calderon will support the "Growth Strategy" which includes initiatives to reduce financial imbalances, provide growth opportunities for society, protect the environment, among others.

Peruvian leader Alan Garcia will arrive in Yokohama at 15:25 local time (0625 GMT) at Narita international airport to participate in this important world summit. (Andina)
